Locust Talks Studio Visits

Serving artists and the community since 1998, Locust Projects is pleased to announce its fourth year of Locust Talks, a lecture series that hosts visiting directors and curators from innovative institutions across the country and internationally for public lectures at the gallery space followed by individual studio visits with local artists, fostering a rigorous critical dialogue about art in the community.

Launched in 2013, the Locust Talks program has hosted participants such as Anne Pasternak, President and Artistic Director, Creative Time, New York; Lauri Firstenberg, Director and Chief Curator of LAXART; Fairfax Dorn, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Ballroom Marfa, Marfa, TX; 2014 participants included: Peter Eleey, Curator, MOMA PS1, Long Island City, NY; Jenelle Porter, Mannion Family Senior Curator, ICA Boston, Boston, MA; and Louis Grachos, Ernest and Sarah Butler Executive Director, The Contemporary Austin, Austin, TX. 2015 participants include Jens Hoffmann, Deputy Director for Exhibitions and Public Programs at the Jewish Museum, New York; Franklin Sirmans, Terri and Michael Smooke Department Head and Curator of Contemporary Art, LACMA, CA; Tina Kukielski, Co-curator of the 2013 Carnegie International and Curator of the Hillman Photography Initiative, Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA; 2016 participants include Massimiliano Gioni, Artistic Director, New Museum, New York, NY; Michael Darling, James W. Alsdorf Chief Curator, The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Chicago, IL; Mary Ceruti, Executive Director and Chief Curator, SculptureCenter, New York, NY. Locust Talks have been generously supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Florida Humanities Council.

  1. CV or resume that includes exhibition history, publications and awards.
  2. Brief artist statement describing your work and studio practice (no more than 250 words).
  3. Five to eight images of recent/related artwork (including the title, medium and dimensions).
  4. Please specify your choice of visiting lecturer by placing their names in order of preference: Nancy Spector, Ali Subotnick, and Adrienne Edwards.
